The Role of Expertise on Physics Education Research

Expertise has a very specific meaning in cognitive science, and a good deal of the initial research on expertise took place using physics as a context.  In this talk I will discuss what is meant by expertise in the physics education research community and provide some background around the subject.  I will also discuss how research-based instructional strategies try to develop expertise in students.
